A China Grove man has been charged with misdemeanor child abuse for leaving his 10-month-old child in an unlocked car while he shopped at a Salisbury Lowe’s Home Improvement store this week.
Aaron Tyler Ferguson, 31, turned himself in to Salisbury Police in connection with the case, officials said. He was released on a written promise by the Magistrate with a court date of Oct. 4.
The charges stem from a Sunday, Aug. 28, call to police about a child left alone in a car at 207 Faith Road in Salisbury. When the officer arrived at about 4:45 p.m., the child had already been removed from the vehicle by staff at the Lowe’s store and was in good condition.
Ferguson was located in the store and told police he had forgotten the child was in the vehicle. Department of Social Services is following up on the case, police said.
The child’s mother was at another store in the area at the time, and showed up at the Lowe’s during the investigation, police said.
