There is nothing better than reading a really good book. You want to talk about it, share it, analyze it and hear other people's opinions about it.
That's why book clubs have become so popular these days. Many are available online.
Many people will agree, however, that a face-to-face book club is best - people meeting together, having a good time discussing and sharing their viewpoints.
If you have always wanted to join a book club, then you are in luck: A new book club is starting this week at the Rocky River Coffee Co. in Concord.
Rachel Damone explained why she chose to start her book club with "The Book of Night Women":
"My husband, Dave, and I are going to be traveling to Jamaica this summer as we start a new ... nonprofit organization, Feed Them 4 Life," Damone said.
"I wanted to learn a little bit about Jamaica's history," she said, "and I've found that reading books, (even though they are) fiction, is a great way to gain some knowledge and understanding.
"For the first meeting, everyone has the option of reading the book first ... but it's certainly not required," Damone said. "I encourage everyone to come either way. ... we are going to ... collect some ideas for our next reading material."
Living in Forest, Va., Damone and her husband worked for a nonprofit organization, World Help, for about six years. They moved to Charlotte three years ago.
"... Through my work with World Help and international travel, my passion for international cultures was realized," she said.
Her husband had dreamed of having his own business, so they left World Help and moved to Charlotte to purchase Rocky River Coffee Co. in Harrisburg. Since then they've opened another store in Concord.
"I love to read, especially literature heavy in culture and traditions," Damone said. "After reading books like 'The Help,' which was culturally significant here in the States, and 'The Dowry Bride,' which takes place in India, I ... wanted to share them....
"Plus I happen to be very blessed with the perfect place to have a book club: our new Rocky River Coffee Co. in Concord."
The group will meet at 7 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month, starting this week. The Rocky River Coffee Co. is at 9900 Poplar Tent Road, at the Cannon Crossroads Shopping Center.
"I just hope that it serves as a good way to get people talking and enjoying each other's differences," Damone said. "Maybe if we take the time to understand, getting along with different people won't seem so difficult."
