Visitors can tour tiger rescue

Hours: Public tours are offered Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Twilight hours are available April through October, Saturday evenings at sunset.

Activities: The Carolina Tiger Rescue will take guests on a half-mile guided tour of some of the world's most endangered species. Visitors will meet tigers, caracals, servals, ocelots, binturongs, and kinkajous, and learn about their rescue stories. Tours last about 1-2 hours.

Cost: $12 for adults, $7 for youth 4-12, free for children 3 and under. During Twilight Tours adults cost $22. There is a $3 photo release fee if participants would like to take pictures during the tour. Tours are by reservation only and can be made by calling the rescue. All reservations must be secured by a credit card. All visitors are required to sign a Visitor Release Form and those under 18 must have a Minor Child Release Form signed by a guardian..

Target Audience: All ages. For the Twilight Tours, guests must be age 13 and up. The compound is not accessible for strollers or other wheeled vehicles.

Directions from Uptown Charlotte: From S. Church Street, merge onto I-277 S. Take exit 1C to merge onto I-77 N/US-21 N toward Statesville. Take exit 13A to merge onto I-85 N toward Greensboro. Take exit 96 for US-64 toward Lexington/Asheboro. Turn right at US-64 E. Slight right at US-64 BUS E. At the traffic circle, take the second exit and stay on US-64 BUS E. Turn right at Hanks Chapel Road and destination will be on the right.

Distance from Charlotte: About 2 hours and 15 minutes.
