Hickory Ridge High

Graduation Marshals: This year's Graduation Marshals are Ian Mercer, chief; Steven Porson, Joshua Sheetz, Megan Yeargin, Caroline Weller, Christopher Strein, Matthew Ninneman, Robert Dates, Tijesuni Babalola, Conner Toth, Morgan Britton, Zack Lambert, Christopher Cline, Sharon Hartsell and Devon Williams. Graduation Marshals are the top 15 students in the junior class.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

Salon bus tour: The Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Cosmetology Center in Kannapolis will host the TIGI "Livin' the Dream" Traveling Salon Tour Bus 12:30-8:30 p.m. June 16 at the Cloverleaf Plaza, home of the Cosmetology Center. Cosmetology students will conduct a haircut-a-thon and bake sale, with proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Entertainment will included DJ Wes Sellers, Damsel Down, We Shout Goodnight, and Smile Charlatan.

Northwest Cabarrus High

Teacher of the year: Lieutenant Colonel Calvin T. Martin, United States Air Force (Retired) is Northwest Cabarrus High School's Teacher of the Year for 2010. Martin began his teaching career in 2006 after serving in the Air Force for 22 years. Martin helped establish the Air Force Junior ROTC program at Northwest Cabarrus High School, where he has led the program to four Distinguished Unit Award honors and to his selection as an "Outstanding Air Force JROTC Instructor" in 2008.

Hickory Ridge Middle School

Registration for new students: Summer registration for new students will be 7 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from July 6 - August 12, excluding Fridays. Concord High School

Basketball camp: The Scott Brewer basketball camp for students in grades 2-9 is scheduled 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 28-July 1 on campus at 481 Burrage Road. Brewer has been conference coach of the year seven times and state coach of the year once, and 2010 NCBCA district coach of the year. Proceeds support the Concord High School basketball program.


Safety Town: The deadline is June 18 to register rising kindergarten students in Cabarrus County for Safety Town 2010. This free program helps children to learn age-appropriate safety rules. Students will attend sessions on bus safety, fire safety, animal safety, bike safety, gun safety, stranger danger, finger printing, ambulance awareness, dental hygiene and personal hygiene. 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Aug. 10- 11 at Coltrane-Webb Elementary School.
