Cannon School

New director of advancement: Todd Hartung will join Cannon School as director of advancement effective July 12. He brings more than seven years experience in fundraising and alumni relations to the school's development, marketing and alumni relations initiatives. Hartung served as an associate vice president at Queens University of Charlotte, where he directed the university's annual giving, alumni programs and parents' council. Prior to joining Queens University in 2007, he was director of development and a member of the administrative team at Forsyth Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school in Lewisville, N.C. While at Forsyth Country Day, he also taught an upper school economics course and coached the wrestling team to its first-ever NCISAA 3A state championship.

Central Cabarrus High

Schedule changes: The deadline for schedule changes is July 15. Students can make one schedule request change for the next school year, and an online form is available at spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dFU3TDIyekVNMG9pYTJZdmllVnRKMmc6MQ . A counselor will review your request, make changes, then email you a new schedule. If needed, they will call or email you. Students wanting a face-to-face appointment with their counselor can call 704-920-7146.

Freshmen orientation: Orientation is 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 19th. Students can receive their schedules, find their classes and interact with older student mentors. Spider Survival Camp: Camp (or orientation for freshmen) is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 for students with last names beginning with a letter from A to L. Camp is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 for students with last names beginning with a letter from M to Z. Freshmen parent orientation is scheduled on the same days, with an evening session for parents on Aug. 2. "Spider for a Day": 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 20. Freshmen can meet with teachers and walk through their schedules.

Virginia Tech

Dean's List: Stephanie T. Kopelic, Havencrest Court, Concord, enrolled at Virginia Tech was named to the dean's list for the spring 2010 semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must attempt at least 12 credit hours graded on the A-F option and earn a 3.4 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester. Kopelic is a freshman majoring in industrial and systems engineering in the College of Engineering.

UNC Greensboro

Dean's List: Undergraduate students carrying at least six hours of course work must earn an academic grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, with no grade lower than a B-. Students are eligible after they have completed 15 hours of coursework.
