The Shakers will play 6-9 p.m. Thursday as part of the free Union Street Live! series. The concert is on the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse lawn, at Union Street and Means Avenue in downtown Concord.

The Cabarrus County Public Library has several activities this week for kids in its summer reading program:

Comedian/magician Al Yountz will perform 11 a.m. Monday, Concord main library, 27 Union St. N.; and 11 a.m. Tuesday, Kannapolis branch library, 850 Mountain St.

Wednesday the Concord library will show "The Little Mermaid" at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested for three minutes at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday. No public action is required.

Alabama Blues Brothers will perform the next free Concert on the Green, at Main Street and Davidson-Concord Road, at 6 p.m. Friday. 704-892-7591.

The Troutman Fire Department has added a new fire/EMS station on Perth Road, in part to reduce response time for calls from fire district residents on the lake side of Fern Hill Road.


Statesville residential electric utility customers can get a $150 rebate when they install a new electric water heater. The unit must hold at least 30 gallons. Tankless water heaters are not eligible. Details:
