Choral Academy auditions: The Choral Academy is scheduling auditions/vocal placement interviews for children and youth (ages 7-20) to participate in three age-based choirs. No preparation is necessary. Rehearsals for fall semester begin on Sept.7. New singers will be accepted through the month of September. All youth in Cabarrus and the surrounding counties are welcome. Each choir meets weekly on Tuesdays through mid-May at Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 Bradley St., Concord, to study and perform a broad range of choral literature selected with age and vocal capabilities in mind. Join Temple Or Olam for a summer dance fundraiser for the congregation’s Sefer Torah, the handwritten scroll containing the five books of Moses, July 31 at their Torah Restorer Hora Galore. Barbara Thiede will be demonstrating features of the congregation’s century-old Torah scroll, which includes the work of master scribes from German, Russia, Moravia, and Macedonia. Temple Or Olam’s Torah was pieced together after Word War II from remnants from several European scrolls dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Program begins at 7 p.m. with salsa and swing; 8:30-9 p.m. learning about the Torah; 9 p.m. refreshments, Israeli dances. McGill Baptist Church, 5300 Poplar Tent Road, Concord.
