Health and wellness: The Cabarrus Health Alliance was one of 40 communities nationwide chosen to participate in the Action Communities for Health and Environmental Change (ACHIEVE) program to combat obesity and chronic diseases through local collaboration. A project team will assess existing policies and environments in Concord and work to improve health and wellness over the next three years.

Golf tournament: The city of Concord will host the 13th annual Mayor's Golf Tournament Oct. 1 at Rocky River Golf Club, 6900 Bruton Smith Blvd., Concord. Sidewalk extension: Work crews will be extending the sidewalk on Cabarrus Avenue from Reed Street to Branchview Drive through Sept. 10. The project, which began in July, includes installing additional storm drains, curbs and gutters and ramps for people with disabilities. Traffic might experience delays. Details: 704-920-5365.
