More scholarships: The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas scholarship program guaranteed a $500 scholarship to the following students whose school held at least two blood drives and collected a minimum of 100 units:

Hickory Ridge High School: Anh Dinh.

A.L. Brown: Frank Villa Hernandez.

Concord High School: Sara Martin and Jeremy Kluttz.

Open House: Open house is scheduled 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 19. The first day of school is Aug. 25.

"Spider for a Day": 8:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 20. Freshmen can meet with teachers and walk through their schedules.

Central Cabarrus High

Cannon School

Alumni inducted: Austin Felker, a 2009 graduate of Cannon School, was recently recognized as a member of the Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization at UNC Chapel Hill. Austin will begin his sophomore year at UNC Chapel Hill in August. He is the son of Eric and Sandra Felker of Cornelius and the grandson of Troy and Pauline Day of Kannapolis and Carol Felker of Morganton.

Back-to-school health clinic

Health and safety day: Cabarrus Family Medicine, at 270 Copperfield Blvd., holds its Fourth annual Health and Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 14. Cabarrus County Schools will provide information on child nutrition, transportation, afterschool programs, Kidsplus, student services and other health questions. Other activities include a live DJ, Buster the Bus, free immunizations, a fire-safety house, a flexible plastic water slide and an inflatable bounce house.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College

Criminal justice degree: Students wanting to pursue an associate degree in criminal justice at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College now have two options - the traditional program centered around in-class instruction, and a new online AAS program in Criminal Justice Technology that starts with the Fall 2010 semester. As with the traditional program, students who stay on schedule will be able to complete the on-line program in two years or four semesters. The on-line program also will offer summer courses.
