Fanfare to open high school

Volunteers will offer carnival rides, games, music and food Saturday as the community celebrates the opening of William A. Hough High School, the Lake Norman area's newest public high school.

The celebration will start with a ceremonial walk from nearby Bailey Middle, led by the new Hough High Huskies marching band. The procession will begin at 11 a.m., and students may line up at Bailey Middle starting at 10:30 a.m.

Hough High's doors will open as they arrive at the campus, and students will be able to walk the hallways for the first time.

Festivities at the school, at 12420 Bailey Road, will continue until 3 p.m.

Event organizers say the grand opening celebration is a chance for students and parents to meet other members of the Hough High family, including its PTSA, athletic booster club and band.

Community volunteers are arranging the event, not the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school staff, and businesses are helping sponsor the games, rides and other attractions.

To be a sponsor, contact Gina Story at jgatistory@roadrunner.com or Jean Buffum at jmbuffum@bellsouth.net.
