Cydney Clanton had a strong performance at the U.S. Women's Amateur golf championship, which was held last week in Charlotte.
The Concord High graduate reached the second round of match play before falling to Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., Thursday.
Clanton, who is a rising senior at Auburn University, tied for 14th during the tournament's stroke play. She hit a 75 the first day of the tournament before improving that score by five strokes on the second day. She finished one over par (145).
Clanton advanced to the third round of last year's tournament.
The 21-year-old had a noteworthy season at Auburn, being named All-SEC and a NGCA first-team All-American. Clanton, who was an automatic qualifier at last week's tournament, finished her college season with a school-record 71.45 stroke average.
