Hours: The planetarium is open 1-4:30 p.m. Sundays; 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays; and 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It is closed Mondays.

Activities: Visitors can explore the 68-foot planetarium dome, enjoy the NASA Digital Theater, exhibits, the UNC Visitor's Center, art galleries, a rose garden and large sundial. The planetarium also offers programs such as "Meet A Scientist" and paddling under the stars.

Cost: Adults. $7.25; children, students and senior citizens are $6. Planetarium members are admitted free. After the first planetarium show, the second and subsequent shows are $3. For an additional cost, guests can register to take a nighttime paddle under the stars and may catch a glimpse of a meteor shower.

Directions from uptown: From S. Church Street, turn right to merge onto I-277 S. Take exit 1C to merge onto I-77 N/U.S.-21 N toward Statesville. Take exit 13A to merge onto I-85 N toward Greensboro. Slight right at I-85 BUS N (signs for I-29 N/I-70 E/I-40 BUS/Greensboro). Continue onto I-40 E. Take the exit toward N.C. 86 S/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Turn right at N.C. 86 S/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Slight left at North Columbia Street. Take the second left onto East Franklin Street. Destination will be on the right.

Distance from Charlotte: About 2 hours and 15 minutes.
