Cornelius-based Aquesta Bank is celebrating its fourth year with a birthday celebration to benefit Serenity House, an end-of-life care home in south Iredell.

A giant birthday card is open at each Aquesta office in Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville. The bank will donate $4 per signature to Serenity House. Ice cream treats also are available at each branch to thank the community.

The Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce will host a Dancing with Our Stars black tie-optional gala at Dale Earnhardt Inc. on Sept. 18.

The event will feature a dance competition, full-course dinner by Catered Occasions, an open bar featuring the "startini" signature drink, live music, a silent auction and raffle. Cost is $90 per person or $750 for a table of eight.

Larry Sprinkle of WCNC-TV Channel 36 will be master of ceremonies. Jennifer and Mark DeSantis, owners of Arthur Murray Dance Studio, will instruct "stars" who will dance that night.

Republican U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Spirit of Enterprise Award during a Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce breakfast Aug. 12.

The annual award is presented to members of congress who vote 70 percent or better on business issues. Moore Hallmark, regional director of the U.S. Chamber, presented the award.

The Small Business Center at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will host the course "Starting a Business: From Concept to Launch," 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 16, at the college's Cabarrus Business & Technology Center.
