Kayleigh Norris, a junior at Mount Pleasant High, participated in the AAU Nationals earlier this month. She finished among the top 30 pole vaulters in her age group at the national event.
The Tigers' indoor track and field coach, Jim Clark, said making it that far is an honor in itself, having to be one of the top four pole vaulters in a region to qualify. Norris qualified from Region 3, which includes North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.
The 16-year-old has impressed others at her sport, finishing in the top 10 at states both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Clark said Norris, who is also a Tiger cheerleader, has a lot of potential and is starting to get some college attention from schools like Appalachian State.
"Even at this point she has no idea what she's going to reach," said Clark. "She has a chance to do something big."
