Heating cost assistance: The Cabarrus County Department of Social Services will accept applications for its Low Income Energy Assistance Program 8a.m.- 4p.m. Monday-Friday, Nov. 1-12, at the county's Department of Social Services, 1303 S. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis.

Applications can be submitted 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 6 at the Mount Pleasant Lions Club, 8595 Park Drive, Mount Pleasant, and New Horizons Baptist Church, 11777 Highway 601 S., Midland. Eligibility is based on October income. Details: 704-920-1780.


Bulk item collection: Beginning Jan. 1, Concord will require residents to call the Customer CARE Center (704-920-5555) to schedule curbside collection of bulk metal, appliances and tires. Items left on curb and not scheduled for pickup could lead to code enforcement penalties. The scheduling will save the city $55,000 annually, officials said.


New project breaks ground: Concord and Douglas Development LLC held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Villas at Logan Gardens project. The 44-unit independent senior living facility will be on Booker Drive on the site of the former Logan High School. The estimated cost of the facility is $5.1 million.
