The Lake Norman Soccer Club will host the 20th Lake Norman Fall Classic Soccer Tournament beginning Nov. 20 at Richard Barry Memorial Park in Huntersville.
For 20 years, Classic- and Challenge-level teams from the Southeast have gathered in the Lake Norman area the weekend before Thanksgiving. This fall they will come from throughout North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
Each year the tournament invites about 180 teams, with age divisions ranging from 9 and younger through 18 and younger. Boys and girls compete over two days on fields in Mooresville, Statesville and Huntersville.
The Fall Classic averages more than 200 applications for those 180 or so spots per year to enter the tournament. The tournament committee begins evaluating teams in October. After selection, the committee sets up competition brackets for each age group.

Discovery Place KIDS
A new adventure in learning and creative play, Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville opened its doors to the public Oct. 23.
The Huntersville museum is presented by the Merancas Foundation. With 23,000 square feet of adventure and fun, it is the third member of the Discovery Place Inc. family, alongside Discovery Place - the science center in uptown Charlotte - and the Charlotte Nature Museum, beside Freedom Park.
"Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville allows children to be pioneers of curiosity, fun and learning, all in a community setting close to home," said John Mackay, president and CEO of Discovery Place Inc.
According to the museum's website, the developmentally appropriate experiences at Discovery Place KIDS encourage imagination and help children build confidence and test skills by trying new things.
The exhibits, which have a small-town theme, allow children to learn through play.
Live programming will include story time, a visual art studio and puppet shows. Workshops for tots, summer camps and birthday parties will also be available. Early childhood classes will be available starting in January.
Discovery Place Inc. partnered with the town of Huntersville to develop the facility that houses Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville and a number of local government offices.
