Misenheimer

Pfeiffer leader: Pfeiffer University has named banker and N.C. native Michael Miller its next president. Miller, 59, begins his role as the university's ninth leader Dec. 1. The attorney and former president and CEO of CommunityONE Bank, based in Asheboro, also served as a director of the American Bankers Association. Miller was a Morehead scholar at UNC Chapel Hill, earned an MBA from Wake Forest and a law degree from Wake law school. He and his wife - Donna Jacobi, a recipient of the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service - will live on the Misenheimer campus.

Concord

Holiday garbage collection: Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, Thursday's garbage, recycling and bulky waste will be collected Friday, and Friday's pickups will be on Saturday.

Harrisburg

On-street parking: Starting Jan. 1, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office will issue parking citations for any vehicle parked on a Harrisburg street leaving less than 22 feet of width of roadway. The Harrisburg Fire Department has had to walk to some emergency calls in subdivisions due to cars on the street, creating roadblocks.
