Cabarrus News boys' Coach of the Year: Justin Gutierrez, Robinson

Justin Gutierrez, a first-year coach, led the Bulldogs to SPC conference titles and beyond. Gutierrez also led his team to a second-place finish at the 3A Midwest Regionals and a third-place finish at the state meet.

Cabarrus News boys' Runner of the Year: Brandon Koerwitz, Robinson

Brandon Koerwitz is among the best in the state at what he does. The senior capped off a remarkable career finishing fourth overall at the 3A state meet with a time of 16:09.23.

Brandon Koerwitz, Robinson: Senior also finished second at regionals.

Tim Gruber, Cannon School: Junior finished fifth at the NCISAA 3A state meet, running a 16.45.

Andrew Fried, Robinson: Top 25 finish at states with impressive 16:45.49 time.

C.J. Buck, Robinson: Bulldog finished 31st at states.

Michael Dilks, Mount Pleasant: Tigers' best finished top 40 at states (17:03.11)

Nick Rupp, Hickory Ridge: Bulls' standout also named all-region.

Cabarrus News girls' Coach of the Year: Chris Balga, Hickory Ridge

For the last two seasons, Chris Balga has not only led his team to an SPC conference title, but has also won SPC Coach of the Year honors.

Balga, who led his team to a fifth-place finish at the 3A Midwest Regionals, hopes this is just the beginning for a budding program.

Cabarrus News Girls Runner of the Year: Stephanie Schauder, Cannon

The senior capped a standout career finishing second in the state running a 19:03.60. Schauder also earned all-CISAA and all-state honors for her performances this season.

Taryn Stern, Hickory Ridge: Senior was named SPC Runner of the Year.

Ashley Herrin, Hickory Ridge: Sophomore finished 21st at regionals.
