Eagles win third NCISAA Division II state title

First Assembly's 27-7 win against Westminster Catawba gave the Eagles its third consecutive state title.

The team, which is coached by former Carolina Panther Mike Minter, finished the season 10-2. Running back Michael Minter led First Assembly, running for nearly 1,600 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns for the season.

Local players named to all-state football team

Seven players - six from state champions First Assembly and one from Cannon - were recognized with all-state honors.

First Assembly: RB Michael Minter, OL Christian Little, DL Ugonna Awurunye, LB Easton Sprayberry, DB Tyler Rhyne and DB Dante Simmons.
