Winter tubing season awaits

Hours: For the 2010-11 winter season, tubing is open Monday through Thursday with sessions at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays and holidays at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m.; and Sundays 10 a.m., 12 a.m., and 2 p.m.

Cost: Monday through Friday sessions are $24, while Saturdays, Sundays and holidays cost $32.

Activities: Guests can explore between four and six areas on the mountain at Hawksnest Ski Resort. With more than 20 lanes open for tubing, the resort is the largest park of its kind on the East Coast. The resort also offers a zip line with 10 cables that is about a mile and a half long, allowing for high-flying views of the High Country. Visitors can expect to spend one hour and 45 minutes per session. Holidays are Dec. 20-31, Jan. 16-17, and Feb. 20-21. The ski resort will also help guests to find lodging on the mountain.

Target Audience: Ages 3 and older for tubing.

Directions from uptown: Interstate 85 S. Take exit 17 for U.S.-321 S/U.S.-321 N. toward Gastonia/Lincolnton. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for U.S.-321 N. Turn left at U.S.-321 N./North Chester Street. Continue to follow U.S.-321 N. Turn left at N.C. 105 S. Turn right at 7 Devils Road. Turn right to stay on 7 Devils Road. Turn right to stay on 7 Devils Road. Slight left to stay on 7 Devils Road. Take the third left onto Skyland Drive. Slight left to stay on Skyland Drive. Destination will be on the left.
