UNC Charlotte

Exhibit: Artist and professor Heather Freeman's "Personal Demons" is on display at the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art in Athens, Ga. The exhibit "Taking Part" will be on display through March 6. "Personal Demons" are fantastical prints and videos that feature hybrid creatures and architectural elements that are inspired by images of saints and martyrs. The work resembles the creatures from works by artist Hieronymous Bosch. The works are created through digital media.

Award: Music student Brandon Buckmaster recently received a fourth-place honorable mention at the second Portnoy International Violin competition. He was one of 12 international semifinalists selected for the competition. The competition took place in Columbia, S.C.

Exhibit: Artist and professor Mary Tuma has work on exhibit at the de Saisset Museum in Santa Clara, Calif. The exhibit "Veil: Visible and Invisible Spaces is up through March 11. The exhibit explores the topic of the veil through the works of contemporary women artists.

Tribute: Dr. Will Campbell leads a concert tribute to jazz legend Joe Henderson 8 p.m. Jan. 31. Tickets $9 public; $7 seniors, faculty and staff; $6 students. performances.uncc.edu.

Cabarrus Art Guild

New location: The Cabarrus Art Guild has a permanent location in The Depot at Gibson Mill. Their new home is at 325 McGill Avenue, Concord. www.cabarrusartguild.org. The guild is a group of more than 80 artists and others supporting the arts.
