I know Valentine's Day is more than a week away, but I want to spread the word about a Valentine event coming up Friday.
Although most couples envision a romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant to celebrate, that is not always possible, especially when kids are involved. So I am recommending you take the family to a fast-food restaurant.
No, you don't need glasses. I said "fast-food restaurant."
"We are hosting a Valentine's Date Night for families in our community to enjoy a very special evening together with reserved seating, table service, entertainment and free IceDream sundae toppings," said Ginny Hargette, marketing director of Chick-fil-A at Afton Ridge and Concord Mills.
"Our goal is to make the dining experience remarkable for families on a very personal level," Hargette said. "Families can order anything off our menu at regular price. We will have free IceDream sundae toppings for families to enjoy when an IceDream cup is purchased. Families will also walk away with a special Valentines gift."
Ever since the Roman Emperor Claudius II beheaded a priest named Valentine on Feb. 14, A.D. 270, for performing secretive marriage ceremonies, this day of love has been celebrated. (Claudius II had outlawed marriages because men refused to go to war for him in order to stay with their wives._
Today more than 141 million Valentine's Day cards are sent annually.
"Since the world puts so much emphasis on the importance of Valentine's Day, we decided to create a special event specifically geared towards families," Hargette said.
Afton Ridge Chick-fil-A hosted a similar Valentine's Date Night last February and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, Hargette said. This year, the staff is offering four seating times and hopes to host 60 families throughout the evening.
For a reservation, e-mail Ginny Hargette at email@example.com. Reservation times are 5, 5:45, 6:30 and 7:15 p.m. The Concord Mills Chick-fil-A is also hosting Family Valentine's Date Night.
The Afton Ridge Chick-fil-A organizes other family events.
"We invite families to join us on the second Thursday of each month for our Family Night. We give away one free four-pack kid's meal, when an adult meal is purchased, and invite kids to participate in craft time," Hargette said.
"We are hosting a Super Hero Family Night on Thursday, April 14. Kids who participate by dressing as their favorite superhero will receive a free four-pack kid's meal."
