Activities: The North Carolina Dance Theatre will offer a student choreography workshop April 9. Students and faculty from the North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance will present original choreography in an up-close and informal performance. April 28-30, guests can also enjoy Spotlight: An Evening of Women Choreographers, performed in the Knight Theater. The performance will feature "The Golden Section," a work crafted by Twyla Tharp; legendary choreographer Martha Graham's influence is highlighted in Requiem, a piece by former Graham Company dancer, Jacqulyn Buglisi; and choreographer Emery Lecrone, will present a new work. During the summer, the dance theater also offers instructional courses to all ages. Children's classes are held June 27-July 30, while teen and adult classes (Open Division) are offered June 27-Aug. 20. The theater provides courses in ballet, modern, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, lyrical, dance-based fitness and more. Participants at the theater will receive instruction from individuals from world-renowned companies like the New York City Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, among others.
Cost: Tickets to the student choreography workshop are $5 and can be purchased by phone at 704-372-3900. Tickets for Spotlight are $25-$79 and can be purchased at the box office or by calling 704-372-1000. Tuition prices for various summer classes can be found on the center's website.
