Owner Joi Chanthavisouk followed in her mom's culinary footsteps with the March 24 opening of Bangkok Garden on Copperfield Boulevard at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard (N.C. 3).
Bangkok Garden serves authentic Thai cuisine similar to the fare at her family's longtime Chopstix Thai Restaurant on Davie Avenue in Statesville. Joi's mom, Bounpheng Inlavongsa, started Chopstix with a sister and brother-in-law, but is now helping Joi get Bangkok Garden started. So is Bounpheng's brother-in-law, Kykeo Phomxayavong, the always-smiling face at Chopstix.
Joi said she and her husband, Greg, intend someday to pass the restaurant down to their son and three daughters. Her husband is a programmer at Ingersoll Rand in Mocksville.
"Everything we're doing is for the kids," she said at the restaurant April 1.
