Baseball skills contest in age groups

Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run, the official skills competition of Major League Baseball, will be at 4 p.m. April 30 at Bailey Road Park.

Hosted by the Cornelius PARC Department, the free competition lets young people ages 7 to 14 be recognized for individual ability in core baseball and softball skills.

Boys and girls compete separately in four age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Individual pitching, hitting and running champions and the all-around champion in each age group can advance to the sectional competition.

Before the competition, each participant must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration/waiver form. Registration, on site, will start at 3:30 p.m. For more information call 704-892-6031 ext. 160 or visit www.corneliuspr.org.

Diverging diamond

The date to begin construction for the Exit 28 "diverging diamond" interchange is August 2013, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation. NCDOT will have a public hearing from 4 to 7 p.m. May 17 at the town hall.

Having a yard sale?

According to town officials, you are allowed one on-premise and three off-premise signs per yard sale.

The signs must not be bigger than 4 square feet and cannot be placed on the street right-of-way or on any utility poles or street signs, or the like.

Signs can go up 24 hours before the sale and must come down within 24 hours afterward. Full details are available at www.cornelius.org.
