Cabarrus County Schools

Strategic Plan Input Meetings: Meetings take place from 6-7 p.m. on the following dates and locations: May 3 at W.R. Odell Elementary; May 5 at Bethel Elementary; May 11 at Mt. Pleasant Middle and May 12 at W.M. Irvin Elementary.

Central Cabarrus High

Auction: Wish Upon A Star Auction 6-8 p.m. May 7 on the CCHS campus. The event benefits Central Cabarrus High. Entertainment provided by CCHS Band, Chorus, Drama and ROTC. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided by The Sweet Life. Live and silent auction and a raffle for Charlie Daniels' autographed fiddle. Tickets $5 or three for $10. Cannon School

One World fundraiser: Seventh-grader Ben Wyatt of Davidson raised $1,400 for One World, which provides clean water to villages in Tanzania. Wyatt created the project and with these funds will build three wells. Wyatt's goal to raise $4,000 will build 10 wells. Details:

Jam Festival: Families from the area are invited to an art and jazz festival 5 p.m. April 29. The annual Arts Jam offers activities and musical performances. The festival will take place on Cannon's campus at 5801 Poplar Tent Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Grant: Cannon School received a $74,049 grant from the Cannon Foundation, which will go toward the installation of flooring in one of the school's gyms. The flooring will replace the current blue, rubberized flooring over the summer.

Harris Road Middle

Patriot band and chorus: The Harris Road band and percussion ensemble each received a superior rating and a first place trophy. The choruses also received an excellent rating and were awarded grand champion.

After school math help: Every month and Thursdays 4-5 p.m. Tutoring is open to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who need assistance with math.

Locks of Love: Hair cutting will take place May 6.

Office assistant: Any student interested in becoming an office assistant for the 2011-12 school year can pick up an application in the front office.

Athletic sponsorship: Harris Road Athletics is looking for businesses or individuals in the community to sponsor athletic programs through a one-time donation of $250 or $350. The donation includes the displaying of a banner at all home football, basketball, wrestling and volleyball games. The donation is tax deductable. Details: Matthew Cline at

Proctors: Harris Road Middle is in need of proctors for end-of-grade testing. Proctors must be at least 18 years old and available on testing dates: May 10-12 and May 17. C.C. Griffin Middle

Front Office Assistant: Applications are being accepted for the 2011-2012 Front Office Assistant for seventh- and eighth-graders. Pick up applications in the front office.

Mount Pleasant Middle

Proctors needed: Volunteers are needed to proctor during several different testing dates. Volunteers must be 18 or older and not enrolled as a student. Testing dates are May 10-12 and May 23-25. Contact Cheryl Widenhouse at 704-436-9302 or last 1-4 hours.

Educator of the year: Robby Barringer, seventh-grade social studies teacher was selected for the S. John's Grange Association as the 2011 Educator of the Year.

Northwest Cabarrus Middle

Titan's golf Classic: May 14 at Red Bridge Golf and Country Club. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place teams in addition to the longest drive and closest to the pin contests.
