Sales tax increase?: Early voting begins April 28 for an advisory referendum on whether to increase the local sales tax by a quarter cent. The actual referendum date is May 17. Details: bit.ly/hqi1UV.

Vietnam soldier: Donnie Shue, who grew up in Concord, was a soldier who went missing in action in Vietnam. Shue's remains were found in Laos and are scheduled to arrive in Charlotte on April 30. A procession is planned from Charlotte to Kannapolis, with a stop in downtown Concord at 11 a.m.

Dot gov: The City of Concord will move its website and employee email addresses to a .gov domain starting May 2.The naming convention will change to "concordnc

.gov." The .gov domain name is limited to U.S. federal, state, local and tribal governments. A ".gov" domain assures a site is official.

Our Boys 5K: Chris and Wendy Hawkins organized the 5K on May 7 to raise money for the Batten Disease Support and Research Association. Their sons, Brandon and Jeremy, were diagnosed in 2006. The event includes a 1-mile fun run. Details:
