Local talent shines at baseball classic

Eight high school baseball teams played at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, the home of the Kannapolis Intimidators, last week in the F&M Bank Baseball Classic.

Formerly known as the Intimidator Classic, the tournament had a new setup that mashed up Cabarrus and Rowan counties against each other.

"It's a great format; you get to see a lot of talent," said Northwest Cabarrus coach Joe Hubbard. "It's a lot of fun."

The Trojans along with Mount Pleasant, Jay M. Robinson and A.L. Brown represented Cabarrus County.

Teams use the classic to stay in shape heading into postseason. It also presents players an opportunity to play in a professional ballpark.

"We enjoy it," said Tiger coach Bryan Tyson. "It's a good experience for them."
