Cabarrus County

New website: Cabarrus County launched its new website May 20. The website www.cabarruscounty.us was redesigned to enhance searches, increase transparency and showcase Cabarrus County.

Concord

Recycling program: Concord began delivering roll-out recycling carts as part of the every-other-week recycling program that begins July 5. Residents will receive a 96-gallon roll-out recycling cart. A second cart can be requested after Jan. 1, 2012. To see the recycling schedule, visit concordnc.gov/whatsmyday.

Cabarrus

New sales tax: The quarter-cent sales tax approved by Cabarrus voters goes into effect Oct. 1. The tax will generate about $4.6 million each year to help pay down the county's $597 million debt. The increase brings the rate to 8 cents per dollar. Mecklenburg's rate is 8.25 cents.

Harrisburg

Musicians sought: The Town of Harrisburg will host a Battle of the Bands Competition 1-4 p.m. July 2. Musicians are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. Cash prizes. Entry fee: $35. Details: www.harrisburgnc.org or bit.ly/harrisburgbands.
