Racing heats up at Summer Shootout

Charlotte Motor Speedway's Summer Shootout series, which in its 18th year pairs up some of the best competitors in Bandolero and Legends racing, is well under way.

The Shootout attracts talented drivers from as far as California, Canada and even Switzerland, and as young as 10, for 10 rounds of racing on select Mondays and Tuesday nights in June and July.

"The Shootout is the big show," said Amber Colvin, a 17-year-old racing in the Semi-Pro Legends division. "If you're anyone or want to be anyone, you come here. To win here, you have to be the best."

In addition to hosting events for the eight racing divisions, the Shootout has exhibition bus and truck racing, as well as monster truck rides on selected dates.

Tickets for adults are $7; children age 6 to 12 are $3; 5 and younger are admitted free.
