The Loft at 14th and Wayside Restaurant will sponsor a Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours networking event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Loft at 14th, 14 Cabarrus Ave. W., Concord.

Lake Norman

Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts held its grand opening last week in the Consumer Square (Super Wal-Mart) retail center off N.C. 150 at Interstate 77 Exit 36 in Mooresville.

Based in Hudson, Ohio, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts operates 751 stores in 48 states. It's the nation's largest specialty retailer of fabrics and crafts, according to the company website, www.joann.com.

Leadership Lake Norman is accepting applications until Aug. 19 for the 2011-2012 year.

Verizon Wireless held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday for its store at 467 River Highway (N.C. 150), Mooresville.

Three new "green" businesses recently joined PiES, a public-private partnership with the town of Davidson and regional academic institutions to provide business assistance to companies in the renewable and clean energy sector.

The new business members:

Energy River, a home energy management and utility services company.

Eco-Revolution, a three-year-old company that sells energy-efficient lighting.

Climate Control Systems of the Carolinas (a division of CoolingTheCarolinas.com). The three-year-old firm is launching its newest product innovation from PiES. The product hasn't been announced but will go into swimming pools.

Lake Norman Financial Group, 19425 Liverpool Parkway, Suite E, Cornelius, recently hired Jason Frye as a registered representative with the firm.

Frye graduated from UNC Charlotte with a business degree with a concentration in finance. He specializes in working with senior adults and small business owners in the Lake Norman area.

Julia Austin, owner/manager of FiFi's Fine Resale in the Magnolia Plaza retail center in Cornelius, recently attended the 24th annual conference of NARTS: The Association of Resale Professionals, in Dallas, Texas.

The four-day conference is the industry's most comprehensive educational event of the year. Austin attended specialized resale workshops, networking sessions, a motivating keynote speech and a resale trade show. She is a four-year member of the association.
