Registration opens Friday for the Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department's new men's and co-ed adult flag football leagues.

Registration ends Sept. 2, and games start Sept. 10. Play will be 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Registration is $400 per team.

Wakeman Charities recently gave $14,000 to the Hope House Foundation in Huntersville, which operates a home for temporarily homeless women and their children.

Jeff and Shelia Wakeman began the charity in 2009 to raise money for nonprofit organizations in the community.

The Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department will offer an After-School Enrichment Program for students in grades 1 through 5 from 2 to 6 p.m. weekdays Aug. 25 through next June 8 at the Waymer Community Center,14200 Holbrooks Road.

School bus transportation will be provided only from Blythe Elementary School. A $15 transportation fee per month will be charged to students who don't attend Blythe school.

Monthly fee is $120 per child for Huntersville residents and $175 for others. Registration: 704-766-2220; www.huntersville.org.
