Cornelius and Huntersville have announced the ninth season of their joint NFL Youth Flag Football and youth lacrosse programs.
Registration for both sports begins Aug. 1 and will be accepted at Cornelius Town Hall, Huntersville Parks & Recreation office or online at www.corneliuspr.org.
The football program offers non-contact football for boys and girls ages 4-14. Practices and games begin in September, with practices on weeknights and games on Saturdays. At the end of the season, all participants receive a reversible NFL replica jersey and a trophy.
Lacrosse clinics are open to boys and girls age 5-17, and the leagues are open to ages 5-14. Divisions are determined by gender and age. Clinics will be on Sundays at Bailey Road Park in Cornelius. The fall league is for anyone who has either completed the beginner's clinics or has experience playing lacrosse.
Divisions will be formed for kindergarten through first grade coed; boys 9 and under, 11 and under, 13 and under and 15 and under; and girls youth and middle school.
Fall league will be games only (no practices) and will start Oct. 2. Games will be on Sunday afternoons at Huntersville Athletic Park. Each player must have additional equipment, including full protective gear. At the end of the season, all participants will receive a jersey and an award.
Volunteer coaches are still needed for lacrosse.
