The fall sports season officially kicks off Saturday, when the N.C. High School Athletic Association will allow its member schools to hold its first day of practice.
That effects football, but also every other fall sport - boys' soccer, cross country, girls' golf, girls' tennis and volleyball.
On the gridiron, teams will be able to have their first scrimmages Aug. 9 with the regular season starting Aug. 19.
Every other sport can have its first official contest Aug. 15.
The N.C. Independent School Association, which governs private schools, allows its school to begin practice Aug.1.
