Meet the author: The Concord Museum will host a book-signing event 6-8 p.m. Aug. 5. Library programs: The Concord branch library will host separate programs on cooking and gardening. Gina Guthrie of Bocca Felice will present Healthy Summer Cooking for adults will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9. Award winner: Thomas "Boone" Linker was named this year's recipient of the Mitch Upton Safety Award. The town Parks and Recreation Department employee is the third recipient of the annual award that honors a staff member's commitment to the safety of residents, coworkers and him or herself. The award is dedicated to the late Mitch Upton, a town employee whose commitment to workplace safety set the benchmark. Recipients are selected by the town's Safety Steering Committee. Linker was nominated by Parks Supervisor Dale Freeman was presented the award on July 11.
Floats with the most: There were 110 parade participants, and thousands of onlookers, at Harrisburg's 14th annual Fourth of July Celebration on July 2. Harrisburg business Make Over My Yard took first place in the Most Patriotic float category while Mount Hermon Lutheran Church took first in the Most Original category.
