Make plans: Concord Regional Airport will host its Inaugural Celebration of Flight on Oct. 29-30. The open house will include a 5K run, pancake breakfast, aircraft fly-bys and static aircraft displays. The run will be 7:30 a.m. Oct. 29. Cost is $25 until Oct. 6; $30 after. County wide

DSS commended: The National Association of Counties presented the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services with two achievement awards for substantially reducing costs in its Crisis Financial Assistance Program, and for a community outreach program to aid under-served older adults in Cabarrus County. The annual NACo Achievement Award Program recognizes county government programs in a variety of categories. Cabarrus County DSS won for Counting the Costs Financial Learning and Accountability Program and REACH - Reaching Elderly Adults with Community Helps.

Cash only: Discount tickets for the Cabarrus County fair will be on sale through Sept. 8 at the Concord Mills guest service desk and the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center box office. Advanced tickets are $3 for ages 6-11; $5 for 12 and older and wristbands are $15. The fair will run Sept. 9-17, 4-11 p.m. weekdays; 1-11 p.m. Saturdays and 1-10 p.m. Sundays. 704-786-7221.
