Concord

The cities of Concord and Kannapolis, town of Harrisburg and Cabarrus County will host a Sept. 11 Patriots' Day remembrance ceremony at 2 p.m. next Sunday at Concord Fire Station 8, 1485 Old Charlotte Road.

Huntersville

Parents have until Tuesday to register their children ages 3-5 for the Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department's fall Start Smart programs that begin this month. Children will learn skills for such sports as soccer and baseball. Details: 704-766-2220; www.huntersville.org.

Mooresville

Troutman

The 76th annual 2011 Iredell County Agricultural Fair will feature rides, games, displays, food and fun for all ages Monday through Saturday at the Iredell County Fair Grounds. Statesville

The state awarded a $10.4 million contract to low bidder Maymead Inc. of Mountain City, Tenn., to resurface 14.7 miles of Interstate 40 in Iredell and Catawba counties, from Exit 132 (N.C. 16 Business) in Conover to Exit 146 (Stamey Farm Road) near Statesville. Work can start as early as Sept. 26 and is scheduled to finish by Sept. 1, 2012.

West Shore

East Lincoln Republican Women will sponsor a Sept. 11 remembrance event at 2 p.m. next Sunday at the East Lincoln Community Center on Optimist Club Road in Denver. A Southern-style family picnic will be served at 1 p.m.
