Bingo: The Junior Charity League's Longaberger Basket Bingo fundraiser will be 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, 247 Spring St., N.W., Concord. Details: 704-652-0669 or www.jclofconcord.com.

Roadwork: The N.C. Department of Transportation started work to widen a 2.1-mile section of N.C. 49 from east of Walker Road to east of N.C. 73 in Mount Pleasant. The $19.4 million project includes converting the two-lane highway to four lanes divided by a median and replacing the bridge at the N.C. 49/N.C. 73 interchange. The project is expected to take about three years.

Republicans to meet: Cabarrus Republican Women will host N.C. Speaker of the House Thom Tillis at its meeting Sept. 20 at The Village Church, 9280 N.C. 73, Concord. Regular meetings are the second Monday of each month. Reservations: 704-621-6984.

Grant money: Applications are due Oct. 7 for Cabarrus County Community Foundation grants. Grants will focus on arts and culture, workforce development, domestic violence, emergency services, hunger and youth and senior services.
