DSS surpasses goal: The Cabarrus County Department of Social Services Child Support Division helped collect more than $9.5 million in child support last year on behalf of families and their children. The collections exceeded the division's federal incentive goal by more than $200,000. The division, led by Angela Talley, also surpassed federal incentive goals in paternity establishment, child support collection percentage and arrears collections. Details: Ben Rose, 704-920-1552.

Harvestfest is coming: Harrisburg United Methodist Church's 21st annual Harvestfest craft show, bake sale and barbecue will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 1. More than 50 exhibitors will be on site. Other events will include a quilt auction, breakfast and a barbecue lunch. The pumpkin patch will be open as well. Details: 704-455-2311.

Play ball: The Kannapolis Intimidators, a Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, announced a new franchise attendance record this season. The team drew 138,487 fans to Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to 67 openings in 2011. The organization averaged 2,067 fans per game. The Intimidators recently finished their 17th season since moving to the area in 1995. The 2012 season will begin April 5, 2012.
