Kitty City, a pet rescue and education center on Union Street South in downtown Concord, will sponsor a "Save A Tuxedo Barbecue, Boogie and Bash" 2-6 p.m. next Sunday at The Orchard House, an event site on Miami Church Road (off U.S. 601 South). There will be food, bands, games and fun. Proceeds will support rescue and adoption of black cats, which are usually the last to be adopted, according to a news release from the nonprofit organization.

Byrd's Barbeque will provide pork and chicken sandwiches. Vegetarians can enjoy veggie burgers and baked beans. A cash bar with beer and wine will be available. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance at Kitty City or online at Details: 704-795-5219.

The Kannapolis Fire Department's fourth annual free open house will be 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station No. 1, 300 Firehouse Drive, with a children's play area, a Legends race car, the Sun Drop monster truck on display and adult fire-extinguisher training. The 2011 Ragin' Bulls Golf Tournament will be Saturday at Rocky River Golf Club, off Bruton Smith Boulevard at Interstate 85 Exit 49. Proceeds will go to support athletic programs at Hickory Ridge High School. Registration will start at noon, and play will begin at 1:30 p.m.
