Giving Back to PAL: HF Financial, a life insurance company, organized their first "Great Chefs of HF Financial Barbecue Cook-Off Contest" to benefit the Police Activities League (PAL) of Charlotte.
Participants paid and entry fee of $20. HF Financial also created a "pay to be casual" day which allowed employees to wear jeans to work if they paid $10. In total, the company raised $500. PAL is a charity organization offering the necessary support to enhance the lives of youth and young adults in low-income, underserved Charlotte communities. Visit www.palcharlotte.org.
Thunder Road Marathon: Volunteers are needed in more than 10 areas for the Thunder Road Marathon on Charlotte Nov. 8-12. 5K Road Race: The Big South Conference recently announced its second annual 5K Road Race to benefit Charlotte-area middle school athletics.
The event will kick off 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Blakeney Shopping Center in Ballantyne. The event is being presented by Keffer Automotive and TrySports. Online registration is now open at www.BigSouth5k.com. The race will end with awards, music, games, food and giveaways.
