HF Financial

Giving Back to PAL: HF Financial, a life insurance company, organized their first "Great Chefs of HF Financial Barbecue Cook-Off Contest" to benefit the Police Activities League (PAL) of Charlotte.

Participants paid and entry fee of $20. HF Financial also created a "pay to be casual" day which allowed employees to wear jeans to work if they paid $10. In total, the company raised $500. PAL is a charity organization offering the necessary support to enhance the lives of youth and young adults in low-income, underserved Charlotte communities. Visit

Teen Health Connection

Advisory Board Applications: Teen Health Connection (THC) is re-launching the Teen Advisory Board (TAB), designed to fulfill many roles including consultation on THC initiatives, outreach, development and community service. Thurgood Marshall College Fund

Awards of Excellence: The Thurgood Marshall College Fund's eighth annual "Awards of Excellence" event will take place 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Founders Hall inside the Bank of America Building, 100 North Tryon Street.

The event will feature a strolling supper and reception followed by an awards program at Booth Playhouse beginning at 7:15 p.m. The event will honor individuals across the country based on their leadership, community involvement, professional and civic excellence and contributions to education and diversity. Big South Conference

5K Road Race: The Big South Conference recently announced its second annual 5K Road Race to benefit Charlotte-area middle school athletics.

The event will kick off 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Blakeney Shopping Center in Ballantyne. The event is being presented by Keffer Automotive and TrySports. Online registration is now open at The race will end with awards, music, games, food and giveaways.

Tickled Pink for Breast Cancer

Comedy Show Fundraiser: Tickets are now on sale for Carolinas Medical Cener-Union's annual Tickled Pink for Breast Cancer fundraiser, 6-9 p.m. Oct. 15 at Rolling Hills Country Club, 2722 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe.

Tickets are $40 each with proceeds benefiting the Edwards Cancer Center at CMC-Union.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Lake Norman Leukemia Cup Regatta and Photo Run: This sailing race to support leukemia and other similar cancers will be held 10:55 a.m. Oct. 22 near Shoal Marker .4 NM WNW of Channel Marker 2. Outrigger Yacht Club is the organizing authority and host, responsible for all sailing aspects of the event including the Notice of Race. Foundation for Respect Ability
