Kannapolis

The Piedmont Farmers Market, Cabarrus County Food Policy Council and the N.C. Research Campus will sponsor "Harvest Gala at Farmers' Market" from 5- 8 p.m. Oct. 20, after the regular 3-4:45 p.m. farmers' market at Cannon Village-N.C. Research Campus, 120 West Ave.

The event will kick off the grand opening of the indoor year-round market. Cost is $25 per person.

Huntersville

Sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday . No public action is required during the three-minute test.

Cornelius

Visit Lake Norman received four awards for exceptional achievements in destination marketing at the N.C. Tourism Leadership Conference on Sept. 22.

The awards recognize the best in the state for marketing efforts in the travel and tourism industry.

Mooresville

Longtime Lake Norman area performers Wally Germany and Dave Butler will kick off this season's Mooresville Concerts series with a performance at 3 p.m. today in Joe Knox Theater at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St.

Tickets are $10, $5 for students and free for ages 9 and under. Season passes are $45. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Statesville

The Statesville Fire Department has a chance to win a $10,000 fire safety grant from a national fire insurance company.

City residents are urged to go to the website www.befiresmart.com and take the Fire Safety Pledge.

After completing the survey, they should select Statesville Fire Department at the end to officially cast their vote.

West Shore

Friends of the Sherrills Ford Library will host its free annual Community Fall Fest from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Sherrills Ford Branch Library, 8456 Sherrills Ford Road. The event will include children's games, prizes, face and pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, a craft table, and plant, book and bake sales. Rain date is noon-4 p.m. next Sunday.
