Speedway Children's Charities donate $2.5 million

Nearly a million children benefited from the fundraising of the eight chapters of Speedway Children's Charities this year, with at least $2.5 million donated to 370 nonprofit organizations nationwide, founder and chairman Bruton Smith announced recently.

A chapter of Speedway Children's Charities is based at each Speedway Motorsports Inc. track: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Infineon Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway.

With the help of volunteers and sponsors, the chapters raised the money through such fundraisers as track walks, auctions, raffles, holiday light displays and annual galas.

Individual and corporate donations also were made throughout the year.

Speedway Children's Charities also partnered this year with Feed the Children to provide boxes of food to deserving families in communities surrounding the chapters.

Since its inception in 1982, Speedway Children's Charities has awarded about $36 million to non-profit organizations across the country, helping more than 11.3 million children.

Children helped over the last 29 years would fill the stands of the eight SMI tracks at least nine times.
