Carolina HealthCare System's Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital recently entered into an agreement with Mooresville-based Lake Norman Regional Medical Center to accept pediatric patients from the medical center who need inpatient care.
The 53-bed Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital is on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
With the agreement, a dedicated mobile intensive care unit will provide specialized transport of sick patients from Lake Norman Regional directly to Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital.

Kirk Ballard begins his role today as president of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber's board of directors appointed Ballard to the position on Dec. 22.
Ballard was the chamber's 2011 chairman and brings 20 years experience working for Prudential in its insurance and securities departments. He also has 10 years of real estate experience with Allen Tate Realtors locally.
Ballard serves on the Mooresville Beautification Committee, where he helped create its Community Gift Catalogue. He is an accomplished artist, with several works on display at the Mooresville Public Library, and serves on the Arts and Science Council with Allen Tate.
He also is a sponsor of the Teacher of the Year program for the Mooresville Graded School District, a member of the Rotary Club of Top of the Lake and a Senior Olympics volunteer.
Annie Brawley Craven joined Lake Norman Regional Medical Center as director of rehabilitation services, and Jeffrey Mullis joined the hospital as assistant chief financial officer.
A Mooresville native, Craven was manager of rehab services at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville for 18 years.
Mullis was corporate director of logistics at Novant Health and previously held management positions in finance, accounting, distribution, logistics and operations for IBM Corp. in Charlotte and for Solectron Technology in Charlotte.
He received his bachelor of science degree in finance and accounting from Wingate University in Wingate and his MBA from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte.
A lifelong resident and native of Concord, Mullis is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Institute of Internal Auditors and is on the board of directors for the Girls and Boys Club of Cabarrus County. Joe Marusak Joe Marusak
