Start planning now for upcoming charity golf events

The Historic Latta Plantation announced the 2012 Latta Open Golf Tournament at The Point Lake and Golf Club in Mooresville is on April 23.

The Point is a private course on Lake Norman that was designed by golf legend, Greg Norman. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit Latta Place Inc. to help preserve local history and the plantation.

Shriners Celebrity Golf at Northstone

Northstone Country Club will be hosting the 10th Annual Shriners Celebrity Golf Classic June 8-10. The golf outing is an exclusive two-day private event for sponsors, celebrities and attendees. It will boast two separate golf outings for celebrity athletes, a dinner gala and concert by Michael Israel.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout North America that provide free orthopedic and burn care to children under 18.

Soap Box Derby

The Huntersville Soap Box Derby (SBD) Association announces the first event of the year on March 24-25 on Lindley Drive in the Huntersville Business Park.

The SBD welcomes new participants in the American tradition of Soap Box Derby Racing.

If you are interested in exploring the sport, go out to watch a race and meet the Huntersville SBD Director, Ken Myers. The board of directors are also present at the races including, Gil Cash, Charlie Blubaugh, Randy Faile, and Baron Atkinson. Potential racers can wander through the pit area and ask questions.

Previously used Soap Box Derby cars and rentals racers are available. A Soap Box Derby camp for kids is also offered. Those that want to order a kit can visit www. soap box racing. com.

There are different divisions based on age and experience. The Stock Division is for racers age 7-13 years old. Super Stock Division, is designed for racers age 10-17 years old. The Masters division is for racers age 10-17 years old and is usually driven by the more experienced drivers.
