Organist Susan Bates kicks off the second half of the 2011-2012 Organ at Davidson series with a free performance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the sanctuary of Davidson College Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Main St. A reception will follow the concert.

Troutman has elected to participate in the state's Extended Urban Archery Deer Season, which runs today through Feb. 12. The extended season is an effort to control the deer population and to mitigate auto accidents involving deer. Troutman currently has no public game lands; all hunting will have to be on private land which will require written permission from the land owner. This season pertains only to land inside the town Limits of Troutman. For a map of the town limits and access to land owners:


Due to the holidays, the only meeting of the Statesville City Council in January will take place 7 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Iredell County Government Center, 200 S. Center St.

Beginning in February the city council meetings are expected to return to the newly rehabilitated city hall building.

West Shore

Children in kindergarten through grade 2 are invited to learn elementary Spanish for free this winter at the Sherrills Ford Library. Half-hour classes will be at 10 a.m. Saturdays beginning this Saturday. Registration: 828-478-2729.
