Concord High: Concord High School graduate Tara Moran Trahey, a freshman at Duke University, was named to the dean's list with distinction for the fall 2011 semester. To qualify, students must rank in the top one-tenth of their college.

Cannon School: The school will host a college admissions panel at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. Admissions personnel from UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University will discuss admission trends and college evaluation processes. Open to the public. Details: www.cannonschool.org or 704-721-7167.

Assistance dogs: Cabarrus County Schools is using dogs trained by Paws4People to increase the skills of special education students and to close the gap between children with disabilities and those in regular education classes.

The two dogs, Nikki and Caroline, know more than 50 commands and are taken to schools throughout the district to work with students by CCS Physical Therapists.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College: The school offers college classes for rising juniors and seniors from Cabarrus County schools. The classes earn high school credit through the N.C. Career and College Promise program. The schedule of informational meetings:

College financial aid information session: CCS will host a financial aid information session for high school seniors and parents at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County, 247 Spring St. N.W., Concord.
