Plans approved: Cabarrus County commissioners unanimously approved the Rotary Club of Concord's plans to develop a park on the corner of Union and Corban streets in downtown Concord. The proposed Rotary Park will include space for a farmers market and a splash-pad for children and adults. Trash pickup, water and electricity costs and liability issues at the site were discussed for months. Concord will handle utilities and the county will take care of trash pick-up.

Concord

Youth council: May 11 is the deadline for applications to the city of Concord's Youth Council for the 2012-13 school year. The program is open to students in grades 9-11 who live and attend a public, private or home school Cabarrus County. Details: www.concordnc.gov.

Harrisburg

Batter up: Supporters of Hickory Ridge High School's baseball program are trying to raise money to replace the school baseball field's chain-link backstop with one that includes a mesh net and brick wall. A teacher at the school, who's also a certified engineer, has donated the plans. Bids for the project range from $10,000-$12,000. The effort began this fall and should be finished by the first home baseball game on Feb. 27. Kannapolis
