Listening tour: How can county government help as the community collectively works toward economic recovery? The public is invited to suggest ideas to answer that question at any of three stops on the Cabarrus County listening tour on regulation reform.

The county's Council for a Sustainable Local Economy will compile results and make recommendations to the county Board of Commissioners.

The public is invited to any of three forums. All start at 6:30 p.m.:

Feb. 16 - Kannapolis Train Station, 201 S. Main St., Kannapolis.

Feb. 23 - Vintage Motorclub, 325 McGill Ave., Concord.

Feb. 28 - Buddy's Restaurant, 1470 S. Main St., Mount Pleasant.

Join the conversation: Do you have an opinion about how downtown Concord should evolve? Concord Downtown Development Corp. will host "A Community Conversation, Like No Other" 7-9 p.m. Feb. 23 at Hotel Concord. The drop-in event will have live jazz and refreshments. The public can share thoughts on key questions. Those thoughts will be considered as the CDDC board develops goals for its next fiscal year. RSVP to 704-784-4208.

Storm ready: Concord recently was re-certified as a Storm Ready Community. As part of the program, staff from several departments will attend a National Weather Service spotter class, which will provide training to identify severe weather and relay information to the NWS. The annual Ready Kids Camp, sponsored by the city and county with the local chapter of the American Red Cross, is recognized as a youth preparedness best practice. Details:704-920-5528.
