HAVE YOUR SAY: You can comment on the Cabarrus County Schools' proposed budget for fiscal 2012-13 at a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday at the Education Center, 4401 Old Airport Road (near N.C. 49), Concord. The board will have a work session after the hearing. To see the agenda visit

HIGH SCHOOL ART CONTEST: Entries are being accepted in the annual 8th District Congressional Art Competition. The annual competition is open to all high school students (grades 9-12) across the district, including Cabarrus County.

The entry deadline is 5 p.m. April 20. Submit artwork to the district office of U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell, D-N.C., at 325 McGill Ave., Suite 500, Concord. Each student may submit one work; each high school may submit an unlimited number. The winning piece will be displayed for a year in the tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol.
